Location
Rathmullan is a beautiful village on the western shore of Lough Swilly on the Fanad Penninsula, 11 km (7 miles) north-east of Ramelton and 12 km (7.5 miles) east of Milford. Boasting a main street running along the sea front and leading to the stunning 3KM beach, Rathmullan is steeped in history and was the scene of the Flight of the Earls in 1607 which was a very significant event in Irish history. The beautiful tree lined walk known fondly as Batts Walks is a reference to the fact that Rathmullan was once owned by the Batt family. The Abbey built in 1518 by local Chieftains, the Mc Swiney’s of Fanad is certainly worth a visit.
